In three weeks’ time the world’s biggest adventure movement will arrive in Betws-y-Coed with the inaugural Quest race taking place on Saturday 6th May. Participants will come from all over the UK, Ireland and further afield to take part in this adventure race which sees participants run, cycle and kayak across various distances.
Adventure racing has become popular in recent times alongside the growing popularity of being health and wellness aware, and active. The varying distances on offer for the race mean there is a route to suit everyone. Put simply, if you can run a 10k but that’s about as far as you’ve tried, then the Mini route of 25KM could be the one for you. If you’re more experienced, then perhaps the Sport route of 42KM would suit. The Expert route is 53KM but, as we know, some people do that before breakfast!
Sarah Ferguson, Chair of the Betws-y-Coed Tourism Association said, “We are pleased to welcome Quest to Betwys-y-Coed. We know that those travelling to and participating in the race will not be disappointed with the location. Quest offers those who enjoy the outdoors and challenging themselves a great opportunity. To boot they throw in a wonderful location and an after party. We are looking forward to welcoming all those taking part.”
Oliver Kirwan, Race Director said, “We’re so excited to have Quest taking place in Betws-y-Coed this year. Our whole mission involves putting on these challenging races in the most epic locations around the world and this part of the Wales certainly lives up to that standard. The three distances mean there’s a route to suit everyone. The surroundings are beautiful and views inspiring, so much so you might forget about the aches in your body. We’ve still got places left for the newest Quest adventure race so get signed up today for an event you don’t want to miss.”
Two-time Olympic gold medallist and Quest Ambassador Alistair Brownlee said, ‘Away from the Olympics and ITU competition, Jonny and I live, train and love life in the Yorkshire Dales. Cycling and trail running in amazing surroundings that we’re proud to call home. We’re absolutely delighted to work with the Quest Adventure Series in bringing the world’s best one day adventure races to the UK, starting with Betws-y-Coed Wales in May. Jonny and I are looking forward to taking part in a Quest adventure race very soon.”
