Quest Adventure Race makes its return to Achill, with participants from all over the world taking part

Quest adventure race is the single biggest mass sporting event to take place on Achill each year and this year will be no different with in excess of 1000 participants descending on the island to run, cycle and kayak across various routes.

Participants will do either a 18km ‘Challenge’, 31km ‘Sport’ or 63km ‘Expert’ route that combines trail running, cycling and kayaking to give participants an unforgettable experience on the Island.

Those thinking of undertaking their first adventure race still have time to prepare, the18km ‘Challenge’ route is very achievable from a starting point of relative fitness. Participants will enjoy the camaraderie and the finish – it’s not all about the speed!

Participants will come from as far afield as the USA, Belgium and Austria to compete in the event.

Sean Molloy, Achill Tourism Manager said, “Quest has been bringing adventure racers here for a few years now and it’s great to see people coming from all over Ireland and further afield, many for the first time. We have an extensive calendar of events year-round here in Achill and Quest is one of the unique events that add to all the things you can see and do here on the island. We will be welcoming all the adventure racers in September and making sure to show them a good time while they are here.”

Oliver Kirwan, Race Director said, “We are really looking forward to returning to Achill this September – the event has been growing and improving year on year and we will continue that trend this year. It’s not just for the grizzly hard-core adventurers there is a route to suit all levels of fitness and I’d encourage everyone to have a think about signing up for the challenge – you won’t regret it.

“There is a huge sense of achievement, as for most people adventure races are more about finishing the race rather than speed. We’re also looking forward to the fantastic fancy-dress after party which will take place in Gielty’s Bar in the evening. Mesmerising scenery, dramatic seascapes, sandy beaches, and the rugged wild Atlantic coastline all make the route an absolutely spectacular event, not to be missed.”

One wave is already sold out with others nearing capacity, register now to avoid disappointment.
