They flew into Quito, Ecuador on Monday night and since then they have been preparing our gear, food bags and acclimatising.  52 teams from around the world will hike, bike, kayak and climb their way around the 710 km remote course over 8 days non-stop taking in the Andes, Amazon jungle and finish on the pacific coast all on as little as 2 hours sleep per night.
They have just arrived back from the opening ceremony and pre-race meeting.  It’s going to be a long hard course.   The local teams have got specially made gaiters (leg protectors) to protect them from the deadly snakes in the Amazonian jungle!  Other warnings besides snakes have been “Lava flow”,  stingrays” and rabid dogs 🙂
The sections of the race include 10 stages through the wilderness:

  • Stage 1 Hike 29km
  • Stage 2 Mountain Bike 67km
  • Stage 3 Hike 44km
  • Stage 4 Mountain Bike 144km
  • Stage 5 Hike 45km
  • Stage 6 Mountain Bike 159km
  • Stage 7 Kayak 69km
  • Stage 8 Mountain Bike 42km
  • Stage 9 Hike 40km
  • Stage 10 Kayak 59km

You can also send the team, what are always very welcome  messages (Trail Mail) during the race, which we will receive at different transition points throughout the race.  Thanking you in advance for those 😉
