12/24 Training day schedule, Saturday 22nd June 2019

Quest 12/24 is just over 3 months away, training is ramping up and we’re running a free training day for those taking part on Saturday 22nd June. Register soon to avoid disappointment.
Meeting in Sneem Hotel at 8.00am for a long 9-10 hour session across some of the routes of both the Quest 12 and 24.
Below is a brief outline of the day, it is subject to change depending on how many people confirm for the training day and the split between Quest 12 & 24.

Training day schedule, 22nd June 2019
Start:                 8am Sneem Hotel https://www.sneemhotel.com/
Leave transition bags with us and we will have them for you at Transition 1 base of Carrauntoohill (T1).

Cycle:                Sneem to Carrauntoohill (Quest 12 stage 1) 47.70km – average pace 22-24Km p/hour. Time 2hrs 15 min
Transition:         Your bag will be at the base of Carrantuohill so that you can change into running gear. The bikes & bags will also be looked-after while you go up the mountain.

Mountain Run:   Ascend/descend Carrauntoohill (Quest 12& 24 stage 2) 12.9km, approx time 2 hours 45mins – 3 hours.

Cycle:                T1 base of Carrauntoohill back to Sneem via Waterville. Quest 12 stage 3 cycle route. We will stop in Waterville at the location of T2 and kayaking lake (note there is no kayaking available on this training day but there will be a separate training day for this – details to follow), 85km average pace 20-22km p/h, 4 hours to 4 hours 30 mins depending on stops and pace.

Total distance to cover:
Bike: 133km
Run:12.9km
Total estimated Time: 9-10 hours depending on pace, time in transitions and stops.
Depending on how people are progressing and feeling there might be an option to cycle a shorter route back to Sneem after Carrauntoohill.

Kayak training:
A kayak training session will run on another date. We will confirm the details of this as soon as possible.

Gear required for the day:
Bike: Cycle helmet, 2 spare tubes, tyre levers, fully working bike, rear bike light
Run: Trail runners recommended.
